Ammo and prices going UP, UP , and AWAY!

ammoman.com increased prices by 10% today.

I'm trying to find another AK, and the YUGOs are GONE....

Get em while you can folks.

Over the past 15 years, I've made 99% of the centerfire rifle cartridges that I've fired. It's not hard at all. Component prices have gone up but not by that much. Get some reloading equipment and lay in a supply of primers, brass, bullets and powder. Not to mention it's fun.

You then can roll your own, every bit as reliable as bought stuff and a lot more accurate.

Prices look the same as they were a couple weeks ago, dunno what your talking about. Not that I dont doubt it will continue to consistently go up but it doesn't seem to have changed due to the election (yet).

Talking about ammoman btw.

Don't know when it happened, but Wolf 7.62 x 39 in 154 gr. soft point used to be $204 at Sportsman's Guide. I checked a few days ago and it was over $220. I think a lot of these places may have jacked up the prices due to increased demand, but I'm not sure it all happened today....

It is what it is...

Fact is, time is running short and certain items will not be as readily available here in the near future with all the gun grabbing "poly-ticks" coming our way. (poly meaning multi, tick meaning blood sucker)

The prices really haven't gone up THAT much. It isn't getting cheaper with the current economic BS...

So friends, brothers, sisters, comrades.:sarc: If you don't have it...GET IT OFF THE SHELF before the other side does.:ok:

Much respect,

Copper Zinc and Lead are all way down in price, with the commodity pull back, and daily new lows in basic materials there should be a corresponding pullback in the price of ammo. Tell me why this is not true.

Ammoman's Wolf 7.62 x 39 rounds have seen an increase of 25% ($199 before, $249 now). That's one hell of an investment return!

I believe AIM still has them for $179 + shipping.

From the Ammoman.com website today:

AMMOMAN.COM WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY NEW ORDERS FOR A DAY OR TWO
WE ARE 2000 ORDERS BEHIND AND NEED TO CATCH UP
WE WILL NOT BE TAKING PHONE OR FAX ORDERS
WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ANSWER THE PHONES
IT MAY TAKE UP TO 3 DAYS OR MORE TO ANSWER YOUR E-MAILS
PLEASE BE PATIENT AND WE WILL BE WORKING SATURDAY AND SUNDAY TO CATCH UP
WE WERE GETTING UP TO 800 ORDERS A DAY AND THAT'S JUST TOO MUCH FOR US

There has been a pullback -- e.g., the latest Cheaper Than Dirt! catalog includes a number of price cuts and even advertises "Lower ammo prices" on the cover. Now that Obummer won, however, this may be temporary. While those who are self-aware have been prepared for months or years, there seems to be a sudden feeding frenzy of newcomers depleting the current supply. It remains to be seen whether Obummer will jump on gun control, especially given that he's got his hands full with more pressing problems.

hey, if ammoman really has more orders than they can take care of, their prices are TOO LOW. There's no reason why they shouldn't increase prices under such heavy demand.

Twisted Avatar 11-07-2008 08:38 PM

Re: Ammo and prices going UP, UP , and AWAY!

The reason why AMMOMAN is swamped is because they are small fry operations.

I placed a order with Impact guns for some 7.62 ammo today and she told me my the order will be processed sometime next week (mon or tues)

They cant handle the volume.

T

Smallfry may be a perspective thing but I don't think that that is a true statement. Maybe we can get Dr Doom to chime in here as he just picked up a case from Eric the other day. Historically he has posted pictures on his website of the stock in his warehouse, I have seen pallet upon pallet of product and his building is pretty good sized. You can see off the attached photo it has to be at least 75' x 100' or more. Here's that shot of his building:
http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?ar...&gid1=10911179

After the link comes up, just click on the A near his address.

He runs a class act and normally gets his product out the door the same day you order. If you have a problem, he takes care of it, no questions. These are unusual times we are in. He says on the header of his website that he has shipped more ammo last week than he ever has in 26 years (and you even referred to that in another post). The firearm industry now is the same as the PM market, at times they can not resupply the product or process the orders as fast as they come in (at least I haven't read of Ammoman's website locking up yet ala APMEX). It's not like we all didn't know there was an election coming up and there was at least a 50 / 50 chance that the President elect, Vice President elect, Speaker of the House, etc, etc, may not be the most gun loving people to come along yet. This is Venus aligning with Mars and we are all going to take it in Uranus. Just remember, if all your stock was squared away six months ago or even a few days before the election, you would not be part of this problem you could just set back and watch it all unfold. Panic is not good, but if you are going to panic, be the first to do it. The people that are purchasing their products now are not among the first to panic! Good luck with your purchases and please do not be critical of those you do not really know.

Panic is not good, but if you are going to panic, be the first to do it.

And to think the people that are freaking out now are still beating the rush..... when you see Obama actually talking weapons and ammo THEN you will see panic in the ammo market the likes of which will dwarft anything

Brass and lead will be more valuable than silver and gold.

I have a feeling that gun will be in high demand in the future.

All the local guns shops I've visited recently, there has been higher than normal demand, especially for semi-auto rifle caliber ammo (.223, 7.62, .308, etc.). They've resisted price increases for the moment, but when their distributors start coming up empty, they'll be forced to join the rest in hiking their prices.
Speaking for myself, when I can't get my rifle ammo at a decent price, I hold off and get handgun ammo I need, which seems to be holding somewhat steady right now. Let's just pray this is a temporary thing.

Sweet mother mary...... I would have a easier time running through hell with a pair of gasoline soaked knickers on.

Nobody has them. most shop keepers started laughing when I asked....... I felt like I hit the dam lottery when I found it . If the budget allows I want to pick up another one .

I can see a day when that black shotgun will go for the price of good used car.

Maybe two.

Current concensus is that Barry The Socialist is going to ask Congress for a 400% tax increase on certain types of ammo; the goal to make it cost prohibitive to shoot recreationally anything except single shot weapons.

Yep, and in my NRA mag they printed 500% increases......

.223 / 5.56 Nato is now going for 40-50-cents per round and that's for the cheap surplus stuff. :thumb.aspx:

Re: Ammo and prices going UP, UP , and AWAY!

I'm not hurting at all with my preps.....
BUT!
Shot a coyote (You wouldn't believe, so I won't brag) the other day which led me to do a round count of same type ammo (handloads)
GADS! 2 open 100 ct boxes of Gold Dots! That's all! Went to MidwayUSA......nearly empty of many components. (Just try to get primers)....ended up with 500 XTP's. (bought MANY MANY primers about 6 months ago) That should do. The time's drawn nigh. Nevermind the cost. Get yours now!
We learn from history that scares like the most recent lead to a peak in demand, but the demand abates and the product is still available. It may not be like that this time. Aside from the very probable taxation on ammo (got black powder arms?) there is a possibility of making " military caliber" ammo illegal, like in -I think- Italy.

Prometheus 11-10-2008 09:09 PM

Re: Ammo and prices going UP, UP , and AWAY!

ammoman sucks. Back in 2000/2001 he was decent on prices but unless you live somewhere where shipping charges are outrageous, ammoman is over priced and eric is a pain to deal with if you have a problem.

Aimsurplus is one of my favorite sources. Century as well, but with my c&r expiring, the gig is almost up there.

As to panic buying... only support businesses that are not jacking up the prices. Aimsurplus comes to mind as do a few others. ammoman and 44mag.com are two that are gouging (among many), they'll never get my business again and I liked to deal with 44mag as well... always had good experiences. f'em. I knew mcAmnesty was going to lose when he got the nomination and I was buying in anticipation. I don't need jack at this point. I'll still scoop up the bargains but paying more than they were a week ago? screw that.
